VICTORIAIn response to the introduction of Bill 36 by the BC Liberal government, delegates at CUPE BC’s 49th Annual Convention in Victoria passed an emergency resolution opposing the elimination of the standard school year. Delegates expressed concern that the proposed changes are more about the bottom line and budgets than quality education.

CUPE members to rally in support of free collective bargaining tomorrow

BURNABY—CUPE fully supports the British Columbia Teachers Federation's struggle against Bill 22 and their fight for free collective bargaining. To that end, CUPE will be participating in the mass rally on Tuesday, March 6 at the Legislature in Victoria, CUPE BC President Barry O’Neill said today.

BCTF Job Action Update - What CUPE K-12 members need to know

On Thursday March 1, 2012, the BCTF served notice that it will commence a three day strike starting Monday March 5, 2012. The BCTF has reached an agreement with the employer through the Labour Relations Board that will see no picket lines go up during the strike. The agreement, which the BCTF has asked CUPE to honour, means CUPE members in the K-12 sector are expected to show up to work as scheduled, but should not perform any student supervision which is teacher and administrator work. CUPE fully supports the BCTF's struggle against Bill 22 and their fight for free collective bargaining. CUPE BC President Barry O'Neill has written a letter to all CUPE members to explain the situation further.

In December, the Canadian Union of Public Employees, representing 26,000 members in B.C.’s public school system, reached a tentative Provincial Framework Agreement with the BC Public School Employers’ Association. That agreement (July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2012) was overwhelmingly endorsed by CUPE’s K-12 Presidents’ Council.

BURNABY– In December, the Canadian Union of Public Employees, representing 26,000 members in B.C.’s public school system, reached a tentative Provincial Framework Agreement with the BC Public School Employers’ Association. That agreement (July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2012) was overwhelmingly endorsed by CUPE’s K-12 Presidents’ Council that is made up of presidents from the 55 different locals.

BURNABY – CUPE has reached a tentative Provincial Framework Agreement with the BC Public Schools Employers’ Association (BCPSEA). The Framework Agreement was unanimously endorsed by the CUPE BC K-12 Provincial Bargaining Committee after two more full days at the bargaining table on December 13 and 14. The agreement was presented to the CUPE BC K-12 Presidents’ Council on December 15 and it was overwhelmingly endorsed by council members.  The Presidents’ Council is made up of presidents from 55 CUPE K-12 locals and is the body that set the priorities for the bargaining committee. The Framework Agreement was endorsed by 90 per cent of the local presidents representing 90 per cent of members. 

CUPE reaches tentative school support staff deal

BURNABY—The Canadian Union of Public Employees, representing 26,000 school support staff in British Columbia, has reached a tentative Provincial Framework Agreement with the BC Public Schools Employers’ Association. The Framework Agreement was unanimously endorsed by the CUPE BC K-12 Provincial Bargaining Committee and will be recommended to the CUPE BC K-12 Presidents’ Council for endorsement. Each CUPE local union will now take this provincial agreement to their local table with school districts to conclude collective bargaining.

These were the 11thand 12thdays of bargaining at the provincial table, which commenced on June 10.  The two parties are set to continue bargaining on December 13 and 14.

BURNABY – On June 10, representatives of CUPE’s BC K-12 Presidents’ Council Provincial Bargaining Committee began provincial discussions with the BC Public School Employers' Association. Bargaining continued throughout the summer with four meetings and four more dates set for early fall. The two parties will meet again on September 26 & 27 as well as October 4 & 5.
