RICHMOND—CUPE’s K–12 Provincial Bargaining Committee (PBC) met for two days on March 13 and 14 in Richmond. There was a full agenda with the primary goal to develop provincial proposals for recommendation to the K-12 Presidents’ Council for ratification. 

Service disruptions during March and April as Blue Cross transitions to new system

Pacific Blue Cross (PBC) will be transitioning to their new system, ACES, on April 4, 2014. PBC will be transitioning all of their clients at this time so there will be some disruption to services during March and April. 

French K-12 survey now online

BURNABY- Almost all of CUPE’s 27,000 education workers in BC have now ratified the Provincial Framework Agreement (PFA) signed on September 18th by the CUPE BC K-12 Presidents Council Bargaining Subcommittee. The PFA was voted on and endorsed at a meeting of all Presidents September 19th.  All 57 CUPE K-12 Locals are members of the Council. Council Bylaws provide that the local settlement and the provincial settlement together amend the local collective agreement.

BURNABY- CUPE’s 57 BC K-12Local bargaining committees have worked hard, and continue to make sure members receive fair deals through the implementation the Provincial Framework Agreement (PFA)negotiated by the CUPE BC K-12 Presidents’ Council Provincial Bargaining Subcommittee and the BC Government on September 18th. The PFA provides CUPE education workers with a 3.5 percent wage adjustment, new recognition and respect for education assistants, as well as an updated BlueNet drug card that allows members to have medication benefits paid up front, without the need to submit receipts for prescriptions.

KOOTENAY LAKE-The Board of Education for School District 8 (Kootenay Lake) held an extraordinary meeting Monday night to reconsider a savings plan to pay for the 3.5 percent wage adjustment for CUPE Local 748 education workers. The lack of a savings plan for the district was a major roadblock to the bargaining process. 

CUPE Local 523 averts strike, no further job action in Okanagan schools

OKANAGAN-Education workers in the Okanagan will not be going on strike. CUPE Local 523 and the employers of School District 53 (Okanagan Similkameen), School District 67(Okanagan Skaha), and School District 83(North Okanagan Shuswap) reached a tentative agreement last night.

KOOTENAY LAKE-Members of CUPE Local 748, education workers of School District 8 (Kootenay Lake) voted to reaffirm their strike mandate over the weekend. 100% of members voting decided that job action is necessary if an agreement with the school district is not achieved. Two rallies are planned for this week; in Creston on Wednesday November 27, and in Nelson on Thursday November 28.

BURNABY- Five CUPE BC K-12 Presidents’ Council Locals have now ratified agreements with BC school districts: Local 379 with SD 41 (Burnaby), Local 476 with SD 47 (Powell River), Local 1260 with SD 35 (Langley), Local 2098 with SD 51 (Boundary), and Local 4991 with SD 57 (Prince George).

POWELL RIVER—Education worker members of CUPE Local 476 have voted to ratify a collective agreement with School District 47 (Powell River). The 153 members include education assistants, clerical staff, trades, custodians, and bus drivers.
