CUPE K-12: Caring for BC students and public schools

No strike date set, web campaign launched

VANCOUVER - The evening of September 10th, CUPE BC K-12 presidents met by conference call and heard a detailed report from the provincial table. The discussions show that local leadership is solidly behind the provincial Presidents’ Council Bargaining Sub-committee.

The presidents on the conference call voted unanimously to empower the Bargaining Sub-committee to determine the timing for a province-wide job action, if talks break down. The decision on that timing will be made during the next bargaining session, set to begin on Monday, September 16.

The main points of the employer’s offer:

  • An unfunded, “on-paper” 4% wage increase: 0% in the first year, 2% on July 2013 and 2% on the last day of the contract.
  • The elimination of accrued sick leave in all local agreements through a 3-tiered contract structure.
